A 2001 report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found
that 16-year-old drivers have a crash rate three times higher than that of
17-year-olds, five times greater than 18-year-olds and almost 10 times greater
than drivers ages 30-59. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found
teenage drivers were less likely to consider their behavior risky. They were
also four times as likely as an adult to crash when using a cell phone while
driving.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration report says Missouri lead
the nation with 161 fewer people being killed in car crashes in 2006 than
2005. The state of Missouri ranks 13th in number of people killed with 1,096
recorded fatalities in 2006, dropping from 11th worst in 2005. A total of
42,642 died in U.S. traffic crashes, a 2% drop from 2005.

not commonly credited by highway officials, helped Missouri drivers. 2006
started with a very mild winter, more interstate center barriers were added,
and price of gas kept some drivers off road, especially teens.)

On June 2, 18 year old Kelsey Smith was abducted from a department store
parking lot in Kansas City, and later found strangled to death. On June 10,
17 year old Zachary Jones of Lebanon, was attacked and beaten to death in
a city park. That same day, in St Louis, 15 year old Shaneka Spraggins, standing
on a porch talking to friends, died when she was struck by a stray bullet.
Is there anyway to make sense out such shocking senselessness? Rarely. Life
guarantees nothing. In the few short years we spend on this planet, each
of us will spend most of our time in forgettable predictability. But life
also disguises moments of terrifying unknowns.
Always, always be on guard for the unexpected. Make those who you come
into contact with, earn your trust. Stay away, and get away, from any
situation that makes you uncomfortable. And if you sense danger, no one,
and we mean, no one, expects you to handle it on your own. Get away, yell,
scream for help. The world has its share of scumbags, but the vast majority
of people, will quickly help, if only they know you're in trouble. Enjoy
your life - just keep both eyes open.

12 year old Christian Lakey were killed on 5/27, when the car they were riding
in, driven by a 31 year old male, fled a Knob Noster police officer and struck
